School Stories I’ve taught at Stevens Elementary since 1990. I taught third grade for five years, fourth grade for five years and fifth grade for six years. From 2000-2006, I was job-sharing with Colby Dresbeck, the most wonderful co-teacher in the world. That’s Colby with her son Raef (shown right) who is now old enough for regular school. For a variety of reasons, most financial, we both switched to full-time employment. Colby is at West Woodland and I remain at Stevens.
The big change is that I have finally left the fifth grade. As of August 2007 I am the PE teacher for Stevens. I am wonderfully excited about the new position. There are many reasons, but probably the biggest ones revolve around making PE fun and helping kids get healthier. The challenge here will be in serving all the grade levels from K to 5th. Hoooo-boy!
To get started I’ve been visiting friends’ PE classes and picking their brains for how to make it happen. I’ve taken a unicycle class and spent a week learning more about teaching PE from Two PE Guys. I’m looking forward to the adventure. I’m still looking toward retiring in four or so years. However, if this PE gig works out well, who knows? I may very well be able to extend my useful life as a teacher for a few more years.
